Blind Karate Week
May 2018 saw an amazing week with all students given the opportunity
to experience the difficulties of living with a disability.
As part of Crackerjacks disability awareness week students were asked
to work in pairs with one person blindfolded whilst the other acts as
All elements of karate was practised highlighting the difficulties.
After the excise a group discussion took place with people invited to
comment on their feeling whilst not being able to see as well having
the responsibility of looking after someone.
This proved a huge success with comments such as - Feeling Lost, Scared,
Vulnerable, Confused, Off balance, Closed In, Self Conscious all being
What a fantastic way of learning to become more tolerant of others and
aware of people's needs than to actually put yourself in this position.
The whole club would of leant a great deal from this and will help them
deal with diversity issues far greater in the future.
£180 was raised for Crackerjacks across the weeks classes.
